Gardiner, Montana
Gardiner, Montana is a town that offers breathtaking scenery and a variety of wildlife that is difficult to find anywhere else. It is the oldest named place in the region right outside of Yellowstone National Park. History of Gardiner dates back to 1805 with the area first being known as Gardner’s Hole; named after a fur trapper who went by the name Johnson Gardner. It was not until the 1870s that the town was officially named “Gardiner”, with the extra “i” coming from a phonetic mispronunciation by the natives.
The town of Gardiner acted as the main gateway to enter Yellowstone National Park as early as 1872 when the park was first established. Even now in the present day, Gardiner is still considered the only entrance to Yellowstone with year-round access to the north region of the park using a private vehicle. This little town has survived wildfires, and gold rushes, helped miners in need, and entertained soldiers when they were in charge of the park. Gardiner, MT is a small town with a lot to give and continues to provide to this day. This entrance is open year round. Please, help us respect the locals living nearby, our quiet hours are from 10PM-8AM.
Thank you for visiting Gardiner!
